As you may have heard the Canadian government has legislated that anyone of age may use cannabis for recreational purposes, within certain specific limitations (similar to alcohol and tobacco).

The Board of MTCC 570 has responded to this legislative change with an update to its rules with the addition of  Smoking, Cannabis and Drugs Rules.

In short, the rules prohibit these activities within the units or common elements:

  • any smoking, whether tobacco or cannabis
  • any illegal drug use
  • any excessive use of restricted drugs (like alcohol) so as to become a nuisance to residents
  • the cultivation of cannabis

There will be grandfathering for current residents who are smokers if they register in writing. Read the rules in detail here

*Please note that these rules apply only to 2000 Islington. There has been no change in the rules on the part of the sister building 2010 Islington (YCC 531).
